The
role of Okavango Guiding School
Born from a desire
of 3 guide trainers to change the image of guiding in Botswana, the
guiding school was established in 2004 and began full time training
in 2006. The school has established a guide training centre in Maun,
the Tuli Block and the Okavango Delta.
Our goal is simple. We aim to improve professional guiding standards throughout
Botswana by creating successful partnerships between the Botswana Government,
the tourism industry and the guides of this country. Our training manuals are
the most up-to-date guide training resource in the country and we use the most
modern training techniques to achieve these excellent results.
As the leader in the Botswana guide training we will maintain an internet database
of all guides that receive training with up-to-date profiles and facilitate a
training sponsorship program to assist guides in getting the necessary training.
How we will achieve our goals?
Okavango Guiding School will embark
on a Nation-wide advertising campaign to popularize guiding as a career
choice. The fundamental qualities of a guide have been and will always
be more important than knowledge. By selecting good candidates that display
work ethic, communication skills, leadership abilities and team-work
skills we will be in a position to provide the highest quality of guides
to the industry. Great guides teach themselves and the place of a guiding
school is to hone the skills and allow for the exchange of ideas and
information. |
