Accommodation...

For our budget courses we utilize 2.4m dome tents with a small verandah area. However students may choose to up-grade their accommodation to a "wilderness" style tent with an en-suite loo (costing available from our office). See the picture at the top of this page. There are several short-drop toilets in the camp which are serviced on a daily basis. We have a large dining and lecture tent with generator driven power for lectures, many of which are given using a digital projector. Each course is catered by a professional "bush chef" and hearty meals are prepared for brunch and dinner with a light breakfast. Hot showers are available on a daily basis.

The Areas we train guides...

The facilities of the school include a mobile tented camp on the Kwapa River of the southern Okavango Delta. Although this is only a 2 hour drive from Maun this area is almost pristine wilderness with excellent wildlife and habitat. We also have a tented camp near the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers in the northern Tuli Game Reserve where the countries of Zimbabwe, South Africa and Botswana meet. We are currently developing a theory classroom in Maun that will have an environmental education centre.

It is essential for good guide training to have access to areas with a wide variety of vegetation types. The Okavango camp is perfect for training walking, mokoro, motor boat and vehicle based guides. The Tuli area focuses more on thewalking and vehicle guides. Both areas have large populations of "big game" to give guides the critical exposure to potentially dangerous animals.

It is our hope that having easily accessible training camps in the major guiding centres of Botswana that we will be able to bring guides from all facets of the industry together and allow a cross-pollination of ideas and techniques and recreate the wonderful camaraderie that has dwindled amongst professional guides. Our guide training centres are central for students from Zambia, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Partnerships...

Without the participation of Tuli Safari Lodge and Rann Safaris (Safari South), the guide training schools in the Okavango and the Tuli would not be possible. The commitment of these companies to the training of Batswana is highly commendable. Please go to our links page to connect to these sites

We hope to partner the entire safari industry to provide top quality guide training through the use of excellent areas, outstanding guide trainers and the best possible equipment and training manuals. We will also be able to assist the industry with recruiting new talent as well as finding the correct placements for existing guides in companies to which their talents are best suited.
